A member of the BMV customer service team is assigned to follow dispatches daily to ensure that information is sent efficiently and rapidly should it prove necessary.

Reporting

Weekly or monthly reports are developed for the customer, allowing identification of any improvement opportunities.

LOGIdrive

An on board IT solution from BMV

This is currently being run out across all the BMV agencies, when finished:

All drivers will be equipped with a PDA and a GPS thus simplifying tracking, in real time, each stage of their activity (Loading, transport and delivery) in this way the customer can access reliable information immediately.

The RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)

We are looking at using RFID to track packages in partnership with Oréal and Néopost (based on research carried out by Carrefour)

REDUCING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

  • Tools for measuring CO2 – Developing electric powered operations – Urban distribution centres

TOOLS FOR MEASURING CO2

BMV is convinced that measuring CO2 will lead to controlling an activity’s effectiveness and sustainability and has either developed or is developing several tools:

  • Measuring carbon footprint a posteriori: Every BMV customer is proposed an annual estimated average carbon footprint.
  • Measuring emission levels in real time based on the activity level in the different businesses (transport, handling, international). BMV proposes a method of calculating the estimated average monthly CO2 emission due to fuel used for the customer’s activity.
  • Anticipating emissions based on the projected activity level in the different businesses.

An add on to the above tool allows an estimation of average monthly CO2 emission for the potential customer activity level

DEVELOPING ELECTRIC POWERED OPERATIONS

BMV wants to propose custumers a cleaner overall service and is using the lasted technological advances to develop new operational equipment.

  • Electric delivery vehicles: Working in partnership with Gruau and Géodis, is involved in a project for a 3,5 T flat floored electric vehicle with a range of around 150Km.
  • Electric pallet truck and weighing machine. Working in partnership with Fenwick and Géodis, BMV is involved in a project for an Electric pallet truck and weighing machine delivery device.

URBAN DISTRIBUTION CENTRES

Working in partnership with the Mairie de Paris and Géodis, BMV is carrying out a feasibility study on urban distribution centres. The objective is to set up multi transport platforms which will be supplied with deliveries for business and individuals.

The platform will then tranship, using electric vehicles, within the area.

FURTHER IMPROVING THE BMV NETWORK

  • Develop the international network – Improve the effectiveness of the BMV tools

DEVELOP THE INTERNATIONAL NETWORK

BMV started a medium to long term project in 2009 designed to expand internationally which consists of increasing the existing network of correspondents and agents as well as looking at setting up a strategic presence in the following areas :

  • Near Europe
  • China
  • California
  • Brazil

IMPROVE EFFECTIVENESS AT BMV

  • Remote control material handling
BMV recently completed building equipped with wire guided handling equipment in the Yonne department. Nearly 11000 palettes now meet the 1510 standard and are racked on 5 levels (plus ground) in narrow alleys. This installation reinforces the highly effective transport plan of the Auxerrre agency.
  • All Internet
BMV is modifying its IT system to enable customers to enter directly transport orders or order preparation handling using an internet application connected to the BMV server. This also allows real time tracking.
